Sacred Grounds Organic and Fairtrade Coffee is amongst a small group of specialty coffee roasters playing their role in the Fair Trade scheme.
Products bearing the FAIRTRADE Label provide an assurance to consumers that the developing country producer organisations behind the product are guaranteed a fair go. Essentially this means that suppliers of fairtrade products are:
"ensuring a better deal for producers and
workers marginalised and disadvantaged
through current international trade practices
and rules."
Fairtrade Labelling began in the late 1980s. Today they run the international standard setting and monitoring body Fairtrade Labelling Organisations International (FLO).
Producers registered with FLO receive a minimum price that covers the cost of production and an extra premium that is invested in the local community.
